Job Overview:

The role of Director, NVOCC & Operation Lane Development, will be responsible for overseeing Skylink Distribution’s NVOCC operations, with a specific focus on developing, optimizing and expanding shipping lanes to meet global market demands.

This strategic leadership role requires a deep understanding of the NVOCC business, strong negotiation skills, financial oversight, and the ability to foster relationships with key partners while driving operational excellence across all transportation networks.



What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Lead and manage the entire NVOCC function within Skylink Distribution, ensuring the efficient handling of freight without owning vessels, coordinating with third-party carriers, port authorities, and logistics partners.
  • Optimize the capacity of existing shipping lanes, manage operational schedules, and coordinate timely shipments across diverse regions.
  • Oversee the procurement of ocean freight services, negotiating favorable terms with shipping lines and carriers.
  • Maintain efficient control of logistics costs and implement strategies to reduce operational expenses while improving service levels.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities and develop new global shipping lanes to meet customer needs and capture market share.
  • Collaborate with the sales, marketing, and operations teams to evaluate new trade routes, assess potential risks, and maximize profitability in newly established lanes.
  • Work closely with suppliers and stakeholders to ensure seamless lane execution and proper coordination across regions.
  • Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and shifts in customer demand to identify new opportunities for expansion or diversification.
  • Develop, manage, and execute the budget for NVOCC operations and lane development projects, ensuring effective cost control and financial accountability.
  • Conduct financial analysis to track profitability across lanes, assessing the financial performance of each lane and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on the performance of NVOCC operations, including cost analysis, revenue trends, and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead the negotiation process for rate structures, service contracts, and pricing strategies with shipping lines, carriers, and other third-party service providers.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for key accounts and customers, ensuring that customer expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with clients to ensure a consistent and high-quality service delivery.
  • Address operational challenges proactively, and ensure effective resolution of any service issues to maintain strong customer loyalty.
  • Work with the sales and customer service teams to design tailored solutions for clients, meeting their specific requirements while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts in NVOCC operations, focusing on process optimization, automation, and technology integration.
  • Collaborate with IT and operations teams to implement innovative technologies, such as transportation management systems (TMS), tracking tools, and other digital solutions that improve visibility and streamline operations.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence across the organization, ensuring best practices are adhered to and any inefficiencies are addressed.
  • Manage and mentor the NVOCC team, providing leadership and guidance to ensure a high-performing and motivated workforce.
  • Establish clear performance metrics, KPIs, and goals for the team, tracking progress and providing ongoing feedback and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging innovation, creative problem solving, and professional growth.
  • Ensure the recruitment, training, and development of NVOCC professionals to strengthen Skylink Distribution’s operational capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant international trade regulations, including customs regulations, import/export controls, and environmental standards.
  • Manage risk assessment for each lane, including ensuring the proper handling of hazardous materials, insurance, cargo security, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Stay informed on any regulatory changes and industry standards that impact NVOCC operations, adjusting policies and procedures as necessary.

Requirements:

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes)!
With refer to the senior position Director NVOCC & Operation Lane Development, we are looking for the resource with Bachelor’s/ Master's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD), or similar qualifications are a plus.

10+ years of proven experience in the NVOCC, shipping, or logistics industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management or director-level role.  Strong leadership abilities, with the capability to lead a cross-functional team effectively. Deep knowledge of international logistics, ocean freight procurement, and supply chain management. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to optimize operations and improve financial performance. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders. Proficiency in logistics software, Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Collaborative and dynamic working environment, interacting with various teams, including sales, customer service, finance, and external partners.
