Job Overview:

The Contractual - Security Guard (Night Shift) is responsible for maintaining a secure and safe environment at the office during the night hours. This role involves monitoring access points, patrolling the premises, overseeing surveillance systems, and responding to any security incidents or emergencies that may arise. The Night Shift Security Guard plays a critical role in preventing unauthorized access, deterring criminal activity, and ensuring the safety of staff, visitors, and company property after regular office hours.

This role is critical for maintaining a safe and secure environment during the night, preventing security incidents, and responding effectively to emergencies. He ensures that the office remains secure during off-hours, safeguarding company assets, employees, and visitors.


What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Monitor the entry and exit of personnel, ensuring only authorized individuals are allowed access to the premises during the night shift.
  • Verify identification badges, visitor passes, or entry permissions.
  • Ensure that all access points, gates, and doors are secured and locked after business hours.
  • Conduct regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of the premises, including the office building, parking areas, and surrounding grounds, to detect any signs of unauthorized activity, damage, or safety hazards.
  • Inspect security-sensitive areas such as entryways, exits, electrical rooms, and storage areas.
  • Report any issues, including lighting problems, broken locks, or damaged fences, to the appropriate department for prompt action.
  • Monitor and operate security cameras, alarms, and other surveillance systems to detect suspicious activity and ensure the premises are secure.
  • Respond to any alerts, alarms, or surveillance irregularities, investigating their cause and escalating as necessary.
  • Maintain clear and accurate logs of surveillance activities, including any incidents or security breaches.
  • Respond promptly to any security incidents, emergencies, or disturbances that occur during the night shift.
  • Handle emergency situations such as break-ins, medical emergencies, fire alarms, or other critical incidents, providing assistance or notifying emergency responders when needed.
  • Detain and report individuals involved in suspicious activity or criminal Behavior until law enforcement or other authorities arrive.
  • Be fully familiar with emergency protocols, including evacuation plans, fire safety measures, and first aid procedures.
  • Ensure emergency exits are clear, properly marked, and functional, conducting checks regularly.
  • Assist employees and visitors during emergencies and evacuations as needed.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire department, or medical teams when necessary.
  • Maintain communication with other security personnel and the office management team during the shift.
  • Provide regular updates on security status, incidents, and activities during the night shift.
  • Document all activities and incidents in a detailed and accurate security log, ensuring information is available for future reference or investigation.
  • Prepare handover reports at the end of the shift to ensure the next shift is fully informed of any ongoing issues or developments.
  • Check the functionality of security systems, including alarm systems, surveillance cameras, lighting, and access control mechanisms.
  • Report any malfunctioning or damaged equipment to management for repair or replacement.
  • Maintain security equipment and ensure proper functioning of all tools needed for the job (e.g., radios, flashlights, keys).
  • Enforce office safety protocols, ensuring that no hazardous activities or behaviours take place during the night shift.
  • Report any health and safety risks or hazards (e.g., spills, broken equipment) to management for swift action.
  • Ensure the proper storage of sensitive or valuable materials and ensure the premises are locked down securely overnight.
  • Provide a friendly, approachable presence on-site while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Answer questions or direct employees, visitors, or contractors as needed, offering assistance when required.
  • Help maintain a peaceful and organized environment while ensuring security procedures are respected.

Requirements:

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes)!
In the role of Contractual - Security Guard (Night Shift) High school diploma or equivalent. Security training or certification may be preferred (e.g., Certified Security Guard, First Aid/CPR, etc.). 2 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or working in an office, corporate, or commercial environment is a plus.

Excellent observational and surveillance skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Good physical fitness for patrolling and responding to emergencies. Ability to follow detailed instructions and security protocols.
